Industrial oxalic acid and refined oxalic acid are the two main products of oxalic acid industry. Industrial oxalic acid is mainly used in pharmaceuticals, rare earth, fine chemicals, textile, printing and dyeing industries. Since oxalic acid is used in more fields, downstream customers require more and higher on its purity and quality, which drives the fast growing demand for oxalic acid.

In China, leading companies of the industry include Shandong Fengyuan Chemical Co., Ltd., LonG ShinE Industry Co., Ltd., Mudanjiang Hongli Chemicals Co. Ltd., Tongliao GEM Chemical Co. Ltd., Taixingshi Hongyuan Chemicals Co., Ltd. and Qingzhou Aoxing Chemical Co., Ltd.

In recent years, China has issued polices to upgrade the industry. In 2016, the output of oxalic acid was about 600 thousand tones. The apparent consumption was about 550 thousand tonnes. In the future, the development of pharmaceuticals, rare earth and fine chemicals will contribute to the increasing output of oxalic acid, which is predicted to reach about 900 thousand tonnes in 2011 when the apparent consumption will be 840 thousand tonnes.
