For the recent ten years, high-end equipment manufacturing industry in China has formed a certain industrial scale and the overall technical level has been increased continuously. Due to urgent demand from industries of national economy, a batch of high-end equipment with intellectual property rights has been developed, such as million-kilowatt-grade ultra - supercritical thermal power generating units, sets of equipment for million-kilowatt-grade PWR nuclear power plants, 1,000 kV UHV AC power transmission equipment, sets of ±800KVDC power transmission equipment, million-ton ethylene equipment, etc. In 2016, market scale of high-end equipment industry in China has reached nearly RMB eight trillion.

In China, ocean engineering equipment manufacturing is qualified with well-developed foundation. In 2016, scale of new orders in ocean engineering market was over USD3 billion. Among the total investment in ocean engineering equipment, drilling equipment takes the largest proportion, reached 40%

In 2016, market scale of intelligent production was nearly RMB1.2 trillion. In 2015, output of numerical control machines for metal cutting was about 220 thousand units and metal forming 21 thousand units.

In the 13th five-year planning, high-end equipment manufacturing industry is obviously viewed as the most outstanding industry. As one of the emerging and strategic industries, high-end equipment manufacturing industry has certain technical foundation and talent support. Energy conservation and emission reduction, high-speed railway, communication apparatus, intelligent electricity grid, national defense and military industry, aviation and so on, all might grow rapidly for the next ten years. In 2022, it is forecasted that the market scale of high-end equipment industry will be about RMB17 trillion.
